if you think you can be “hopped up” on anti-depressants, you have literally no idea how they work.https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1157704107425185793 …

yes i know the figure of speech & it refers to uppers. that’s not how anti-depressants work & the fact that people think it is is one of the problems w this shitty rhetoric which shames people who need medication & persuades then there is something wrong with taking it.

I'm aware that anti-depressants aren't stimulants, thanks

apparently not bc here is the literal definition for what you wrote. if you’re going to insist gun violence is a mental health issue, not a gun issue then at least stop shaming people who need medication to survive by equating their meds to narcotics. it’s irresponsible & wrong.pic.twitter.com/oC5lGoACRV

You just acknowledged that it was a figure of speech, and then provided a literal definition, which makes no sense. And I didn't shame anyone individually. Talking about the wider, society-wide impact of anti-depressants is a different matter

if you’re going to pretend to be a writer then you’re going to have to at least acknowledge that figures of speech still have actual meanings.

I think most writers are aware that figures of speech are expressly non-literal phrases used for rhetorical effect, but thanks
