      1) In a country of 327 million, sporadic acts of violence are inevitable, and over-reacting to any one event is unwise 2) This doesn't preclude policy adjustments. It is now substantially harder to carry out a mass shooting in CT because semiautomatic rifles were banned in 2013

Would it be easier to carry out a mass shooting, or harder, if the CT law was implemented federally tomorrow? It would obviously be harder. I'm not necessarily advocating that approach, just saying that policy adjustments could clearly diminish the likelihood of these events

Given the number of weapons out there and the huge amount of non compliance you can expect it would be the equivalent of bailing out the ocean with a teaspoon.

The CT laws have virtually no impact it bans pistol grips on rifles and limits to 10 round magazines. How does this make mass shootings harder? Would this decrease police shootings if imposed on them?

Excellent logic, Mr. Barry. These arguments are often forgotten. So many die in car wrecks and you rarely hear anyone advocating for restricting or banning car travel.

I've known quite a few people that were proficient with hand guns that could do an unbelievable amount of damage. Where would it end?

There's this other weapon available that's called a semi-automatic hand gun. It turns out you can fire pretty quickly with that device too. Granted, they are a little less deadly but don't kid yourself. A "military style assualt rifle" is not a prerequisite to mass shooting.

The main issue with this is that a lot of these mass shooters are obtaining these rifles illegally anyway, so would this really change much?

I think he thinks making it harder to acquire guns would make it “harder” to commit a mass shooting. It might delay acquisition by a day or a week. But once acquired the shooting isn’t going to be “harder.”

Why does it have to be federal if states can do it on their own? Why don’t more states take action?
