Cory Booker made a really embarrassing statement on Wednesday that went unnoticed. He warned that a hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan could "create a vacuum that’s ultimately going to destabilize the Middle East." Afghanistan is not in the Middle East

Afghanistan is in South Asia. It's not in the Middle East. And it's not a pedantic point. For a major presidential candidate make a basic geography error when referring to a country that the US has been occupying and bombing for 18 years suggests a certain imperial decadence

Sounds pretty pedantic. I mean yeah he and all the rest of them have an imperial world view.. but this is a non-story.

It's also basic stupidity that any real journalist would point out immediately. Illegally invading a country, and then occupying it for 2 deacdes is "stabilization", but ending all that is "destabilization"???

Ummm, didnt we destabilize the middle east all the way from North America? Maybe it's the way I'm reading it, but where it's located doesn't make that statement inaccurate

Booker is a paid shill now. He did his "time" to earn his "30 pieces of silver". He enjoys the "good life" now. He pretends to care about the "serfs" whilst enjoying wine and cheese with all the "proper" power brokers.

It is a pedantic point b/c all these geographical lines are arbitrary. Afghanistan being 1 country too far east to be in the middle east is like the definition of a pedantic point. And most Americans would call Afghanistan middle east, that's often/usually what its called.

(although I am perpetually surprised when looking at a map just how close Afghanistan is to the Middle East. Somehow in my mind it was always much farther east. And I know I'm not the only one re this)
