Afghanistan is in South Asia. It's not in the Middle East. And it's not a pedantic point. For a major presidential candidate make a basic geography error when referring to a country that the US has been occupying and bombing for 18 years suggests a certain imperial decadence

Weak point. Afghanistan is on the eastern fringe of the original Muslim zone, and what happens there has effects elsewhere. Think of the Mujahedeen in the 1980s.
-
Not only that it's smack in the middle of access points to southern, east and central Asia. Geostrategic area for that reason. Even more so if you have intents on oppressing Iran, threatening China and flanking Russia.

The only time “hasty” should be used to describe a 19 year war is when talking about how we got into it, not out of it.

Not that I like Booker or anything, but just because Afghanistan isn't *in* the Middle East doesn't mean it can't *affect* the Middle East. The real question is whether Booker thinks the events of 2011 might have also been, um, "destabilizing".

It went unnoticed because the entity known as "Cory Booker" is naturally composed of 98.9% "embarrassing statements"...

Islamic State has a presence in Afghanistan so whatever he was trying to say, he can always point to this. IS using base in Afghanistan to destabilize the middle East.

It’s next to a country that shares a border with the Middle East...that counts, right?
