Nobody forced Al Franken to resign; members of Congress have clung to power long after being *indicted for felonies.* He succumbed to momentary political pressure that probably would've passed if he just waited it out, and that's his own fault

Agreeing with this shouldn't prohibit one from criticizing Gillibrand and Harris for the rolls they played in his ouster, and Schumer's continued lack of leadership

But he was a hyper-#BelieveAllWomen type. So he would effectively undercut himself and effectively make himself voiceless. That was peak #MeToo. He knew he had to go. Plus he likely got pressure from the team. Anyone can be sacrificed as a pawn if it helps take Trump down.

i've made this exact point in the past, and was piled on by both Franken supporters and detractors. he folded like a cheap suit, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence in his willingness to fight for his voters.

I think his “fault” was a little earlier. By the way, he did this just before he ran for office the first time. That means he knew this pic was out there and never dealt with it. This is the kind of pic that gets senators blackmailed into overfunding the already bloated MIC.pic.twitter.com/4KHi0zsbUU

He was too much of a "people pleaser" to stand up on principle to his own base; that is, if the story of it being a MeToo lynching is correct. Sometimes moral principle can put one into a lonely place that requires real courage.

Knowing that, as no doubt he did, maybe he resigned to avoid being exposed for more egregious wrongdoings. For whatever reason, someone wanted him gone.
