Nobody would take Rush Limbaugh for a philosopher king but you think he'd have at least a pang of self-awareness about this comment, considering it's an admission that the GOP's entire political posture pre-Trump was an outright fraudpic.twitter.com/U4DvP5FPD7

He spoke the truth: America is addicted to borrowed money, the country is living beyond its means. Both Republicans and Democrats are guilty.

Both parties want to spend us into oblivion. The GOP just wants to do it a little bit slower. I thought this was understood and common knowledge for the past 30yrs?

Rightwingers like Limbaugh (if not all of them) know deficit hysteria is completely fraudulent. Government's deficit is everyone else's surplus. If US govt ran balanced budgets all through it's existence then US economy would be much, much smaller.

It is “everyone else’s surplus” until the bill comes due, then where does the money come from? When the Social Security/public pension bomb hits I suspect we’ll find out it won’t be coming from anywhere.

Anyone who understands economics knows that it's all about framing. A "federal deficit" = "public surplus" as money supply builds. The issue is that taxation is a tool used to reduce money supply, and the current policies don't tax corps and elites nearly as much as they should.

Same can be said about democrats and any anti-war principles or free speech principles. All of politics is theater.

I might be close to devil's advocate here, but you could oppose pork barrel spending on the grounds of being related to cronyism and corruption, rather than an imperative to cut government spending for its own sake.
