The mere fact that FaceApp was "developed by Russians" makes it a "risk," according to the DNC's chief security officer. File under "acceptable forms of blatant xenophobia" https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/17/politics/dnc-warning-faceapp/index.html …pic.twitter.com/pzskKqDlDV

Obviously people have good reason to be concerned about their data but basing that concern entirely on the ethnic/national traits of the developers is classically xenophobic by any reasonable definition (except liberals can't imagine that they could ever be guilty of xenophobia)

Having banned all other forms of bigotry, real or imagined, the Woke gave themselves dispensation to hate Russians and Serbs.

There was a brief love affair when the west was stripping the fallen Soviet empire for all it was worth. It is back to business as usual now.

There is an active propaganda war against anything Russian here in the United States. Very simply: Russia is bad, America is good. And that is what the government wants everybody to accept. Yeah, it must be really dangerous. That's why they're selling us the App itself, rather than using it in secret to mess with us. ... oh, wait... 🤦🏾‍♂️

... though I'm sure their actual concern is that the app is a Trogan horse, designed to eavesdrop, then send data back to Moscow.

Well, the app itself seems rather shady, so maybe it is a risk. But yeah, the distinction makes it feel as if these guys wouldn't even bother if it was French or something. Slow buildup to the notion that "every russian you encounter is a potential spy", i suppose.
