Omar is an elected representative and therefore obviously subject to criticism but the disproportionate fury she provokes across the spectrum is infantile, paranoid, emotionally reactionary nonsense that says more about her critics than it does her

She gets identity-based criticism but what is she without identity politics? She even wears a uniform which identifies the team she plays for.

Do you have any data to support that statement? I love

She has been "credibly accused" -that is the term, no?- of immigration violations and tax fraud.

Why wouldn't her criticisms be identity-based when what she is being criticized for are her identity-based controversial views?

When she condemns Antifa. When she addresses the issues with the marriage to her brother. When she explains why she lied on her taxes. Then I will start to change my opinion. Until then, she is a criminal as far as I’m concerned.

What attacks on her have been identity based? Ppl having been attacking her comments.

I like most of your work but this is off the mark. It would do more people good to look at factual vs emotional questions and responses, on all sides and dig into the answers. People are still being distracted by easy, go to identity smears on both sides and it isn't working.

You, desperately, want it to be about “identity politics” so you feel better defending her. It’s what she says. Don’t make it more complicated than that.

If Roy Moore were of Omar's "identity" the media would have played down his past too and he would still be in the Senate. (2/2)

I try and restrict my criticisms of her to her Marxist economic policies. Is that too rabid?

The whole Squad persona is contrived. Four young women of color saying outrageous things to evoke a reaction. Four radical superheroes here to save the earth and transform America.

They don't have a disdain for "identity politics". They have a disdain for identities they don't share

Identity politics is the lifeblood of right-wing political entertainment media. They're not going to get their followers enthusiastic about right-wing economic positions (unless connected to identity issues). Without identity politics, they'd be unemployed.

I disagree ... it isn't based on her identity but what she has talked about... and to me a lot of her behavior is divisive... but the media is distorted and people are multi faceted... it is better to focus on what policy she is implementing instead of her

That and her callous attitude toward 9/11, coddling of ISIS, continued antisemitism, and inability to show any appreciation or gratitude to the country that saved her from the 3rd would and elevated her to Congress. Aside from that: great point.

The attacks against her are ugly. But the street goes both ways. I did not vote for Trump but the day after the election I unfriended many people who were calling anyone who voted for Trump things like Nazis. Both parties are guilty of rancid identity politics.
