Not trying to deny anyone's experience, but if there were no commercial imperative behind the production and mass promotion of SSRIs, dramatically less people would be taking them and the health outcomes would likely be similar (and possibly better)

Anyway, I would eagerly listen to a Marianne Williamson lecture on this topic

These are the seminal articles to read on the subject, from Marcia Angell in the NY Review of Books. Really changed my perspective when I first read them years ago; I still re-read from time to time https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2011/06/23/epidemic-mental-illness-why/ …https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2011/07/14/illusions-of-psychiatry/ …

Every person I knew who took antidepressants went further off the wall.

Sadly I've seen the same happen with dire consequences.

It did, however, lead to a plethora of new ads that all begin with “Did your antidepressant stop working? Well, like Most people, you may need additional antidepressants to make the original one work*. * We don’t actually know how they work.
-
We do know. The brain keeps adjusting so the drug "stops working."

I can't imagine why they would. It's like expecting taking antihistamines to eradicate the flu virus.

Anti-depressants inherently de-stabilize normal brain function. If you take them for long enough (i.e., > 6 months) the damage is permanent.

It's like pain killers, they'll alleviate the symptoms temporarily in many people, but you'll be even worse off if you use them in place of addressing the underlying problem. Too many docs and insurers would rather dope someone up than get them the help they really need.

The benefits of
#drugs are often exaggerated & derived from inadequate research while their side-effects are downplayed. http://www.drstanleygoldstein.com/shopping_for_a_shrink__finding_the_right_psychotherapist_for_you_or_your_child_105117.htm …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
