I would bet that 95% of the people who go on TV to rattle off simple-minded partisan talking points about the current immigration situation are totally oblivious to this history https://www.bostonglobe.com/ideas/2019/06/20/who-responsible-for-border-crisis-the-united-states/K0qVm5AVf6SOaZGK1KwheO/story.html …pic.twitter.com/70GIr5frKk

That is pure lie and distortion. 1. We intervened against Soviet Communist warlords in Central America and when the USSR quit sponsoring them in 1990, we quit funding wars. 2. That was 30 years ago; few of today's migrants were even born while that was going on.

        3. Those countries have been democratic for 30 years now. 4. Incomes have more than doubled, per capita and adjusted for inflation in 30 years, a spectacular economic miracle. 5. Education and life expectancies are rising fast in Central America, and violence is down.

And if the coup in Venezuela had happened we would have many more fleeing. Glad to see people are waking up to who is responsible for this crisis. #HandsOffVenezuela

100% of that is questionable with this included: "Babies torn from their families at detention centers" None of that history would excuse the open borders desired by the left. If we try to fix those countries the left calls it meddling. Still no solutions.

"Today's refugee caravans are a legacy of those interventions." - Just like Europe's migrant crisis is a direct result of the West's lunatic regime-change interventions in Libya and Syria.

Sounds like hyperbole especially if it's coming from the usual "the us is the cause of all the problems" crowd. Africa is an obvious case where it's not really other ppls fault they have strife, Central America I don't know for sure but I'd guess we could have influenced it.

And the only person I heard even hint at this in the debate was Marianne Williamson. Maybe Bernie or someone else will go there in the next debate.

Unfortunately, many people are ahistorical, with a memory of fish and don't believe history matters. Look at the media and the way they publish news with zero or selective historicity.

Nicaragua had such a promising period of stability and progress, they were able to arm communist militias in El Salvador and committed plenty of atrocious themselves. The framing of it as some Utopia the US destroyed is a bit muffled.

I am even willing to bet a good deal of them would disagree strongly that USA was opposed to "project of national development in Central America" - at best they'd agree USA tried to prevent "disastrous socialist policies" they'd blame on the current situation.

“The Wall” is an attempt to complicate/block the final 100 yards of the migration. Nobody talks about changing policies so that the migration doesn’t start at all.
