I mean “activists” in the sense of Democratic Party-aligned activists, operatives, and journalists who’ve suddenly decided this issue is a moral crisis while having previously ignored it, but there you go again with the reflexive ascription of bad faith

Is your operating principle simply that the US should return to pre-1996 practices? Or do you have more fundamental objections?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

i didn’t answer your question because i’m having a nice day in the park and my phone died, pls calm down. also if you meant democratic party operatives, you should’ve said that

in any case, i don’t see why *my* opinion on this matters more than anyone else’s. but the general operating principle is that the last 3 decades of imm enforcement have been punitive, costly, inhumane, and ultimately ineffective

that’s not my opinion, there’s data to back it up. prevention through deterrence doesn’t work; mass detention doesn’t work. these policies are relatively new, yet you’re saying ending them would be a hard sell to mainstream democrats because... why, exactly?

I'm saying ending all immigration enforcement and denouncing all detention as inherently evil, which is what Dem-aligned operatives, activists, and media increasingly advocate, would in fact be a significant policy change, which is why I asked if you're affirming those principles

Have a great time. Let me note for the record that you've ascribed bad faith on several occasions, but won't answer a simple question about your own views, and also of course worked in several random personal insults. Other than that, awesome exchange, thanks for initiating it.

this isn’t a conversation about my personal views, it’s about what dem operatives and activists are and aren’t saying. if you can find me a single example of a mainstream democrat saying we should end all immigration enforcement, i’ll happily continue the discussion

On the day of my tweet I was inundated with hundreds of people, many of whom are Dem-aligned activists and media, demanding conditions-free release of all detainees and decrying on principle all enforcement measures

That's why I posed the question in the first place: to ascertain the underlying principle from which these people are operating. Many said that principle was border abolitionism. The only principle you seem to have proffered is a reversion to pre-1996 enforcement measures
