In two sentences or less, what’s the fundamental reason why the US women’s soccer team is so good, and the men’s team is so bad?

US women’s soccer has cultivated popularity in kids and drawn top female athletes for soccer, while men’s athletic culture and many top male athletes are focused on other sports. A Cristiano Ronaldo born in America would’ve gone into something other than soccer

We all agree that he'd still be taking off his shirt whenever he scored a basket, touchdown, or homerun though right?

Men’s soccer is the world’s sport. Women’s soccer is mainly a U.S sport only.

Men’s soccer is behind football, basketball, hockey and baseball in terms of interest in the US. Our top male athletes are simply not pursuing soccer. Also I was told by @nickgillespie that well into the ‘90s, only 2 kinds of kids played soccer in high school: Commies & fags

It's also not a national sport in the US in the same way it is in *so* many countries. Most kids in other countries growing up aspiring to be footballers

Setence 3: Top male athletes in the US all go into basketball, football, and baseball. Those offer much more fame and money in the US. In the rest of the world the fame and money is all in men's soccer. I can't name a US soccer player and my city is reigning MLS champions.
