i know you don't actually give a shit about discussing policy but i'll pretend you do for a sec: "just releasing" people wasbasically policy until the '90s. mass immigrant detention wasn't a thing until the 1996 illegal immigration reform and immigrant responsibilty act :)

most migrants (and like, 99.99% of the children in CBP and ORR custody) have family members or friends in the US. the ones that don’t usually seek help from shelters or other charities

idk man it probably has something to do with the fact that you've suggested ending the relatively new, extremely punitive policy of widespread detention is some ultra-woke fantasy and not like, just a reversion to pre-1996 practices

I was asking for people to identify their operating principle with respect to immigration. I received a huge number of responses from activists/journalists who object on principle to *any* detention or border enforcement whatsoever. So that appears to be the operating principle
