Again, he doesn’t look at what politicians and activists are actually demanding - do not separate families, process asylum seekers as quickly as in the past, actually provide necessities of life to people while detained which should be for less than 72 hourshttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1146527502879416321 …

You just went from “what are people proposing” to “what are online people proposing.” And in any case, “catch and release” was common practice for decades. Even that was only necessary because of antiquated immigration law that disproportionately restricts people from LatAm.
-
"Online people" are a type of "people" because they play an outsized role in the public conversation, along with likeminded journalists and activists, a huge number of which just informed me that their preferred policy is to simply release the detainees without conditions.

It's the same crowd who want 'restorative justice' for violent offenders. Any kind of detention is problematic for them.

And, just releasing everyone to where? How will they survive? There's got to be another solution.
-
All you have to do is look at what was done a few years prior. There’s precedence, we can start by improving on that.

Ever wonder why detain in the first place, while in Europe, (during my time) there was no detention, the doors were wide open, for anyone to go as they pleased, walk around town, shop, see concerts, go to church, go on short trips? In the US, you can live fine as an illegal.

Enforce currently existing us law which includes international treaties it has signed regarding the treatment of refugees, which are both international and domestic law. There, how’s that for ya, jerky

"I was just inundated with media personalities and activists demanding no gestapo activity and the conditions-free release of all the political prisoners and Jews. They're intrinsically against the concept of fascism, not just the currently-existing detention centers."

As many Dem candidates who said they want to decriminalize border crossings.

Alex walks his argument from claiming activists are only demanding reasonable procedural changes to a case for open borders within the same thread. Activists need to own their genuine position here; we know where anti-immigration proponents stand.

Not sure what's the logic behind ur argument. People seeking asylum r separated from children & kept in bad conditions. U can't keep anyone detained 4 so long without processing their case. Argument behind 'release them' isnt 2 b border free but 2 nt 2 do human rights violations
