I spoke to Bernie about the time a constituent slapped him across the face for endorsing Jesse Jackson in 1988. I also talked to Jesse Jackson, who said he supports Berniehttps://spectator.us/bernie-sanders-interloper-south-carolina/ …

The antipathy for Bernie, at least among Dem professionals, is palpable despite his attempts to ingratiate himself with the establishment. The very first person Obama hired for his South Carolina primary campaign in 2008 told me that Bernie should not even be allowed to run

Bernie's paradox is that the antipathy he generates among segments of the Dem establishment is what *endears* him to his core support base, but he also needs to court segments of the Dem establishment in order to win the nomination. How he navigates that dynamic remains unclear!

I was actually a bit surprised by the explicit hostility toward Bernie. He's made overture after conciliatory overture to Democratic Party chieftains, and it doesn't seem to have had all that much of an effect

Good article, great point. Not saying its as easy as it is obvious, but clearly the solution to this "paradox" is to get more non voters to turn out to the polls and get involved, esp young people. I think the campaign understands this very well.

"How he navigates that dynamic remains unclear!" But it seems to involve him endorsing those who screwed him out of the nomination and buying another mansion.

I think the main thing he needs to do is convince them he is going to win. If he is seen as the likely victor, the hostiles will begin to move toward him.

Doesn’t matter how. Can’t win a contested convention on 2nd ballot with superdelegates. 🤷🏾‍♂️

It is half a year or more before the first vote is made. The field of candidates will be chiseled down by then, even moreso if we can keep talking about Biden’s record and targeting him for the center-right authoritarian he is. Never give up hope.

I wish these young people who rabidly support Bernie would stop listening to his BS! He’s been part of the establishment for years, and as he’s been sitting in the Senate all this time, he hasn’t done anything substantial, except his support for communist regimes!

With all the Dem candidate running -a truly ridiculous amount- the Dem establishment has all but guaranteed that super delegates will come into play and help to pick the nominee. Plus, where do you think delegates of fakes like E. Warren, Buttieg, Harris will go to? (not Bernie!)

The best service Bernie could provide for his supporters is to force the Dem establishment to choose between himself and Trump...thereby exposing the reality of the Democratic party.
