The economic embargo the US has imposed on Iran, preventing both imports and exports is an act of war. The war was started when the US revoked the oil waivers and expanded the sanctions to the petrol refining and mining business.

Imports are also impossible now that Iran has been cut off from the international banking system, they can't even pay for imports in oil anymore.

We need Jordan Peterson to chime in with "it depends on what you mean by "war"!"

Imposing sanctions on a country is an act of war - and the US has a history of doing this, at least as far back as pre-WW2 and Japan in the 1930s.

When these ppl say "we don't want war" they mean they don't want a conflict in which they themselves were to face any repercussions. Just a continuation of Full Spectrum Dominance to remind everyone "who's superior".

Yes, an obvious act of war. We used to easily recognize these things, but the effort to "rebrand" these things to "conflicts" has made it easier for people to argue that military strikes are not always war.

Right, in the same way that they’ve successfully euphemized torture as “enhanced interrogation techniques”:

Neocon and Russiagater logic: Bombing countries that I hate is NOT an act of war. An actual act of war, akin to Pearl Harbor, would be something like spending a few thousand dollars on social media ads during election season.

You know what's really awful about Li'l Ben here? He's going to be around for another 40 years spouting this stuff. People are still going to be taking him seriously in the 2050s.

Is an act of war the same as a declaration of war? Because if so, we are at war everywhere then...

By the neocon definition, Pearl Harbor wasn't an act of war. It was just a limited airstrike against strategic military installations with no boots on the ground. Certainly not something that could cause a huge escalation.
