This actually DOES happen off the coast of Alaska with Russian military aircraft. We scramble ours and make sure they don't enter our airspace. If something enters our airspace, game on.

You mean off the coast of Russia.

Strangely the Russians do it all the time. Even fly Open Skies flights over the US.

The US did not react to Russian jets violating airspace of several countries (over several years). Shooting down a non-lethal, fighter jet sized drone is a very aggressive action. I don't think it is a good idea to dismiss all of the belligerent actions of Iran.

I don't think it's a good idea to dismiss all of the oil Iran is refusing to hand over to our corporate sponsors.

I imagine the US air Force or navy would deploy their own drone (maybe a manned aircraft) to jam the Iranian drone. It would actually be a valuable opportunity to collect data on Iran's capabilities, as well as a good "exercise." If it entered US territory, they'd shoot it down.

We already know. The US claims a 200 mile aviation identification zone off our coasts. If a foreign drone shut off its radar beacon within that zone, like ours did in Iran’s claimed air space, it would be shot down.

US officials would fold and throw open the boarder. It’s only San Diego.

Think about how the US reacted to Twitter and Facebook Ads.

Facebook ads, the greatest attack on the U.S. since Pearl Harbor!

I remember when we were flying "non-lethal" drones over Yemen. I'm sure the Al-Awahki family remembers it too. Suddenly it was "oh my how did these Hellfire missles end up in the middle of this wedding party and all these dead Yemeni's and a few American citizens?"
-
Well at least the members of the Al-Awahki family not murdered by the United States government probably remember that.

When I think of foreign policy experts, my first thought is: what does Michael Tracey think.

Depends. Is the drone in international waters?
