The "offensive statements" were made in what the teen apparently assumed to be a private venue. Imagine if your BS sessions with friends at age 16 were all entered into the public record, and used to change the course of your entire life trajectory. School-marm surveillance state

The affected individual is a conservative but that's immaterial. (Almost) everyone makes stupid, "offensive" statements as teens when they're sitting around BSing with friends. Only difference now is that the statements are preserved in an electronic record

Our elite feeder institutions are training kids to be terrified of ever transgressing social taboos, even in private, for fear of compromising their life prospects. If those are the types of people you want dominating elite society, congrats, that's what you're going to get

If a black 16-year-old got caught making allegedly "offensive" statements on Snapchat or something -- say, "fuck the police" or "kill pigs" -- my reaction would be 100% the same. And if your reaction would be different, maybe self-reflect on what exactly you're objecting to

A Harvard-bound mind, at 16 years old, should understand that even if “everyone else is doing it,” he should not. And if he’s dunderheaded and hateful enough to create a record of his ideologies, perhaps he isn’t Crimson material.

What’s that CS Lewis quote? “Integrity is not using racial slurs, even in private messages” or something like that. There are thousands of kids that are just as smart, just as dedicated, without being horrible people. That jerk got what he deserved: A lesson in accountability.

Colleges judge students based on their conduct in high school. During HS, this young man repeatedly used the n-word to refer to classmates. The media was informed of this by classmates. So... the college judged this student based on his conduct in high school. The end.
-
This isn’t just about the boy and his private statements. Harvard has black students. They have a duty to protect those students from harm. Those students pay for an environment free of people who call them n-word in private or otherwise. Racist actions follow racist language.

he didn't say it's ok to pick your nose and eat it. he repeatedly used the word "nigger". you're defending the use of "nigger." it's hate speech, you ghoul.

I assure you this is normal and happens all the time. Colleges rescind if they receive new information that either puts their students and/or institution at risk

-
Yup, and in the social media age, it will continue to happen.
