    In theory, lots of people claim to reject the idea that the US should be the "police of the world." But then when the US decides to "police" maritime trade routes on the other side of the world, and interfere in a dispute that involved no US vessels, suddenly they're fine with it

        The U.S. has always maintained a military presence in the name of "national interests" going back over 100 years. "no US vessels involved and "other side of the world" are meaningless facts. If this was a shipping issue between Malaysia and Indonesia the U.S wouldn't be there.
