Bernie is avowedly a socialist and Warren is avowedly a capitalist. It's funny that they both get conflated under the same vague banner of "progressive" -- as if socialism vs. capitalism is not a meaningful distinction

I just don't want to erase Bernie's identity

Bernie does himself (or the body politic) any favors by self-labeling. Then critics and harpies can assign their own meaning to the label. A bad tactic by Bernie. He should articulate his policy ideas. Leave the labeling to others.

Bernie IS a Socialist and has described himself thus for over 40 years People who argue that he isn’t either: A. Don’t know what socialism is B. Are afraid that being a Socialist is a losing position

I grew up in socialist Bulgaria, my parents were socialists. Not sute what Bernie is, but he is definitely not a socialist. He can call himself whatever he wants... That doesn't make him one. If Chaves was a socialist, Bernie is a moderate Republican...

I agree with your point but people hijack terms all the time. People self-describe themselves as an anarchist but that doesn’t mean they are in a classical sense. That said, just being able to say it out loud, regardless of how he defines it, does put him in a separate category

He may be a socialist, but the policies he is proposing are not necessarily socialist. They are rather mainstream.
-
I think that personally he is a socialist but his platform/policies are socially democratic and I think that he recognizes that if he wants a socialist revolution we may have to take baby steps with first a welfare state

As a capitalist, he sells the idea that he is a "democratic socialist" to gain votes and money.

Meta game is he wants a Democrat to win but doesn't want the job himself, so he's establishing himself further left to make Warren/Biden look more palatable to median swing voters.

Love the guy who responds Sanders "made himself wealthy by following the capitalist playbook" which I guess means write a book about how great socialism is?

It is sad that you go by substance rather than rhetoric when it is related to
@TulsiGabbard but choose to close your eyes/ears to substance when it relates to@BernieSanders. Repeatedly he says democratic socialism but you just can't hear the word democratic. Its sad, really sad.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

He should be a socialist if he isn't. Socialism has been the mainstream political position of the entire developed world, except the United States. It would be preferable the people carrying the biggest sticks and lording it over us constantly, actually kept up.

Great points. Bernie is certainly no Eugene V. Debs, who ran with the Socialist Party
