I guess it was empathetic. It also seemed intended to strike fear in the hearts of readers (about cults). I will need to read it again. The first time I found myself distracted throughout, somewhat defensively wondering what the game was. Mainly because of the opening graf.

Here's an experiment: try having someone who's not very familiar with Tulsi and her policies read the article and gauge that person's reaction. My thought is the article is intended for that audience -- producing confusion, skepticism, distrust about Tulsi.
