They want to exoticize YouTube as a uniquely dangerous hotbed of extremism, corrupting the youth with its algorithms and such. But “the youth” has always been the demographic most attracted to shocking, radical, or fringe ideas: all of which just now happen to be found on YouTube

technically, but its mostly overblown hype. Most research I've tracked so far shows the inverse to be true https://pyt.azureedge.net/ Even the NYT story talks about how youtube made the dude denounce the alt right and he never bought into far right views

I’ve personally met people who became crazed conspiracy types because they fell down a YouTube rabbit hole. So it does exist. Question is how you frame the issue and what policy prescriptions you implicitly demand. NYT and others want more stringent regulation of speech

they're angry because they can't (yet) exert the same kind of top-down control on social media as they do on hollywood, television and print media. and they're determined to shut down any views that aren't theirs.

Or the idea that merely being exposed to different or "unallowable" ideas is enough to create a following for them. As if people can't weigh for themselves the quality of arguments posed in these frowned upon YouTubers videos.

One of the main features of leftist ideology is indoctrination. Which then leads them to believe that non-leftists didn't become so do to nature, intellectual curiosity or want. No, it came from the other side too using indoctrination. A technique that should be only for the left

I struggle with the idea that radicalization is only occurring on the right, when I think the evidence clearly shows more radicalization happening on the left.

It's intentional by the NYT & others. It's why they do so. They know if such censorship is targeted towards them or allies they have the ability to make enough of a stink to stop or reverse it. It's competitors and indie media often don't. They know this & it's why they push it.

Legacy media is really bad at covering the alt media. That kid didn’t even really become an alt righter either, just an evangelical Christians.

As far as I’m concerned, the term radical is a badge of honor.

I think the picture needs to be taken into a larger view. “YouTube” in this sense acts a forum. The radicalization itself is not a result of YouTube, it’s a function of multiple factors that would indeed include media like the NYT.
