Steven Crowder is an unfunny blowhard, but Carlos Maza is professional adult journalist employed by a major media organization -- not some kid being bullied on a playground. The idea that YouTube needs to "protect" him is ridiculous and infantilehttps://spectator.us/steven-crowder-carlos-maza-playground/ …

Crowder and Maza feed off each other in a perverse way. They're both invested in stoking petty online culture war battles, because it's good for their respective "brands." If these are the types of people elevated to the top of the contemporary media hierarchy, we're 100% screwed

It's not really that unusual - the Hays Code essentially controlled Hollywood speech for 40 years as a proxy for establishment morality. I think the trouble is how radical the morality of the new hegemony is.

It's pointless to try and defend Crowder. Anything that liberal media deems hate speech, defined as any speech they determine to be hateful, should be banned indefinitely!

I agree with a part of your argument..but Crowder has been inciting and encouraging his mouth breathing followers to carry on a harrassment campaign against Maza.

It's funny that you wouldn't be able to provide any source on that.

"Turning the tech companies -- who were never supposed to be active arbiters of speech, just facilitators of it" - according to whom? I'd be more on your side if we nationalized social media, but this feels like a made up standard.

Don't get me wrong; I have concerns about youtube, but picking at this specific argument.

It's frustrating because yes, Steven Crowder is an unfunny and irritating turd, but giving the keys to public discourse to Susan Wojicki and Mark Zuckerberg is so infinitely horrifically worse and I wish people could see the bigger picture.

He can still post videos on the platform though. Nobody is stopping him from putting his trash out.

Michael is currently trying to swing from the "Russiagate" branch to the "Vox Adpocalypse" branch. Hoping for a smooth transition between attention-seeking endeavors. I wonder what his next phase will be? Ah, the sweet, succulent fruit of perpetual unemployment.

Isn’t it advertisers or at least the fear of losing them that’s controlling this rather than elite media or government? The business model itself isn’t tolerant of anything that could hurt their image because advertisers care about that and nothing else.
