Steven Crowder is an unfunny blowhard, but Carlos Maza is professional adult journalist employed by a major media organization -- not some kid being bullied on a playground. The idea that YouTube needs to "protect" him is ridiculous and infantilehttps://spectator.us/steven-crowder-carlos-maza-playground/ …

Turning the tech companies -- who were never supposed to be active arbiters of speech, just facilitators of it -- into functionaries of the government and the elite media, with all the political baggage that entails, is extremely dangerous. If you can't see that, you're a moron

Crowder and Maza feed off each other in a perverse way. They're both invested in stoking petty online culture war battles, because it's good for their respective "brands." If these are the types of people elevated to the top of the contemporary media hierarchy, we're 100% screwed

There is already a line drawn there. Explicitly asking/telling people to harm others is defined as a "call to action" and is *not* under the umbrella protections of freedom of speech.

Seems pretty likely this is more about flexing power than nursing hurt feelings. Feelings are just the fiat currency.

I sure hope YouTube scales this back to a milder decision, like merely demonetizing his channel

My understanding (from listening to Crowder) is that while Google/Youtube didn't ban him in response to Maza's complaints they did demonetize his videos by pulling the ads. If true is certainly a form of censorship and caving to pressure campaigns.

Good thing he didn’t dictate what speech is permitted on YouTube then!

If this was two employees of a company the harassing party would be fired. He has a right to say whatever he wants and not face government persecution. He doesn’t have the right to harrass someone and keep his livelihood. It’s a pretty basic point.

There’s a difference between speech and being paid to speak.

If you're a female and go to Saudi Arabia you should expect to be mistreated, but that doesn't make it right.
