In the April exchange I didn't just reference Manafort. I referenced Maria Butina, who was thrown into solitary confinement for no reason other than punishment and coercion. Have seen virtually no one, Dem or GOP, calling attention to that disgracehttps://spectator.us/maria-butina-crime-russian/ …

I agree her position is principled and correct, but this is pretty much the first time I've *ever* heard right wingers cry foul over our inhumane treatment of prisoners. If anything they favor more draconian punishment.
-
And after much of America doing more solitary for much lesser and rather harmless violations, well sorry for my lack of empathy and principled correctness

It wasn't solitary confinement at the time you said it though he requested it for protection at that time I saw that thread & half the ppl were "excoriating" you because you were wrong :\

If memory serves me right, she's been very wrong before about what solitary confinement actually is (hint, she was really wrong). But yes, it's good she's at least being consistent with beliefs, even as uniformed as they usually are.

But prison officials said they were isolating Manafort for his own protection, not putting him into solitary confinement. AOC or her handlers are just trying capture the headlines based on a famous name, and their scheme worked in this case.

respect to AOC (which is not usual for me with respect to AOC, and can be easily checked)

AOC follow up: "NYT used the term solitary confinement, & that’s what I am commenting on. “Protective custody” IS a separate practice, but does not necessarily exclude solitary. If he is in fact not being held in solitary, great. Release everyone else from it too."

Agreed. Solitary confinement should be reserved for the worst of the worst of the worst offenders.
@AOC did not lose her values when she viewed the person subjected to this as repugnant - 1 more reply
