Oh, you found a past tweet that you think is bad from him, therefore Gizmodo is entitled to print outright lies about him without correction. How is it possible that you don't understand that this is exactly the warped journalistic mindset I began the discussion by critiquing?

I found a bad tweet from him, or you mean I engaged him very publicly for smearing my girlfriend! Have you considered he could be a huge asshole

Even if he's a huge asshole who smeared your girlfriend, this does not remotely entitle Gizmodo to print demonstrably false lies about him. Dick Cheney started a war and set up a torture regime but this doesn't entitle the NYT to lie about him. Journalists don't get to lie.

By “print demonstrably false lies,” you mean Tweet? Well Michael surely could have found some time to correct his false and extremely inappropriate smear the past three months

Yes, when I say that it's not justified for journalists to disseminate demonstrably false lies about someone, I include tweets. Do you believe it's justified for journalists and media outlets to disseminate lies about people as long as the person they're doing it to is bad?

I denounce demonstrably false statements from journalists (which are different in kind from negative opinions about people) whenever I see them. I wish you would do the same. Could you answer the question I asked you? Do you think lying about Michael Tracey is justified?

I think you could say basically anything about Michael at this point and I’d have no problem! Because he has personally attacked my gf in a way that he should get punched for. Not a nice guy and maybe you’ll realize it some day. Here’s hoping

I honestly appreciate this candor (and the loyalty): "I think you could say basically anything about Michael at this point and I’d have no problem!" I personally think it's important to oppose lies from media outlets even when the objects of those lies are those we hate.

I agree with this sentiment. I think the question that's getting lost here is "why are you calling out people that lie about Michael but not calling out Michael when he lies about other people?" I'm not saying MIchael's lying - that's just the underlying question being asked.

The question being asked is specious. I didn't fabricate facts about anyone. Even if the tweet Andrew cites was misguided, and in response to vile smears, it's not classic defamation, as the tweets from the Gizmodo journalist were.

the second tweet at least is clearly a joke. you’re just cherry-picking; obviously no one thinks you get money to twirl tucker carlson’s bow tie on air. you’re just debating the “paid appearance” part, which is part of the joke.

Convo's like this is exactly why Twitter is vital. To bear witness to the mentalities of those who choose to work in a field that instill a fiduciary duty to the public. Journo abandoned all for a girlfriend.
