The 1994 crime bill caused lots of problems, but it's telling that Dem candidates are focusing on a 25 year old bill to attack Biden, rather than the criminal justice record of the Obama/Biden administration. Trump enacted more sweeping criminal justice reform than Obama ever did

I was with you until the punchline. Its uncomfortable, but Mike Tracey is right on this one. The First Step Act is objectively way more effective than the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010, Obama's most meaningful #CJreform besides clemency

Yes, apparently. Also the First Step act does a lot of terrible things.

If we’re talking about the risk assessment provision added to slightly earlier release to halfway houses for only nonviolent crimes? *shrug* I don’t agree with JLUSA on that, but it was a clever comms strategy.

I was comparing the legislative record of Obama versus Trump. Trump has signed legislation more sweepingly reformative than anything Obama signed. That’s what the ACLU and other reform groups have maintained.

You initially cited the criminal justice record of the Obama/Biden administration. That record included nearly 2,000 acts of clemency. He does not have as much of a legislative record because for six years, he had no sway over the legislature.

True but in terms of getting stuff done. Obama also could have committed all the nonviolent drug offenses without most Democrats blinking, esp as a move to punch back at deadlock, and didn’t. First Step is set to release ~4,000, already has released about 1,000 people.
