It's very possible to imagine a scenario where Trump is damaged by impeachment even if he is acquitted. Impeachment would keep his perceived illegality and behavioral flaws front-and-center -- rather than, say, the economy. You don't need to convict him to inflict political harm

For some reason people only talk about how Trump's "base" would be energized by impeachment. Well, so would the Dem "base," and that base is arguably larger and even *more* activated, considering the historic turnout in 2018. I discussed in this column:https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-the-runaway-impeachment-train-20190528-jfedgjwbjnegrjxxehrzwx53fa-story.html …

From a strategic standpoint, Warren was "ahead of the curve" on this issue. She read the Mueller Report and called for impeachment right away, while the rest of the candidates equivocated. Any gains to be made by backing impeachment accrued to her. Hence, she has gone up in polls

I'll repeat. Trump supporters who claim they know exactly how impeachment would play out politically are spewing nonsense. Height of arrogance and hubris. Trump won by a thin popular vote margin in three states. The people he needs to win again aren't raging everyday on Twitter

Another thing I wonder is how long Bernie will be able to hold out on directly endorsing impeachment proceedings. At least 4 of his Senate colleagues have already done so. Could be that remaining "ambivalent" on the question will be politically untenable. Starting to seem evasive

Vegas has Trump as odds on fave to win election. Only polls that matter are the ones where people are putting money on it. #ReelectionSlamDunk

Anecdote: Big family get together last weekend at the shore. Some were PA voters - don't know how many at the table voted for Trump but some def did. Hours of chatter. Subject of Mueller, Trump, impeachment never came up once.

This is one way to look at it. Another is to recognize that Trump consistently surprised analysts and voters alike with different outcomes. Impeachment will mobilize the masses and help him.

on the flipside, the Dems don't have a winner on their team. do you really think Biden can stumble, fumble, and phumpher his way into swing states and flip them? are you completely unaware of the Bidens' extremely shady doings in Ukraine? the Trump team will pummel him with it.

At some point, doesn’t this rage against orange man become noise? Trump supporters are immune and the Dems have always hated him. I suspect independents will figure out this is mostly politics and make a reasoned decision based on the economy, security and immigration. Abortion ?

Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 more than Donald Trump won it. A mere 100,000 votes in those three states for Clinton would have put her in the Oval Office with a national popular vote margin of victory of just under three million.

I don't profess that even a served on a plate landslide victory is easy. It's convenient you serve doubt over a win for "A". It's irrational to ignore the existing doubt over "B" winning with a totally uninspired field with no ideas but to destroy America economically & morally.

Very true, regardless, my money says Trump wins or loses the election in the final two week run up to the election. Whatever his negatives, he'll try to create a greater potential between himself and his opponent.

Question is are we going to run an election or run an impeachment. The way the media pushed Trump up front every day last time, which story would occupy headlines? Just look at Twitter. Are we promoting candidates or yammering for the next shock & awe stories for journalists.

True but the polling on the subject of impeachment doesn’t show as much of a tie as the popular vote actually turned out to be in 2016. Also a successful impeachment would enrage more Republicans than Democrats

if impeachment could score any political point, Pelosi & other Dem leaders wouldn't be so reluctant to do it. my theory is Dem leadership will implode, which is a good thing.

Cmon Michael. The “height of arrogance and hubris?” I think that’s a bit of an overstatement. People are speculating just like you do every day.
