The tendency to cast any deviation from contemporary left/liberal consensus as “crypto-fascism” or even outright “fascism” is among most stifling and absurd elements of the hysteria-induced moral panic that we’ve been beset with for the past several years

Orwell observed in 1944 that every political faction in England had accused the other of being "fascist" -- from communists to conservatives. "It will be seen that, as used, the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless," he wrote. Some things never change...

Fascism clearly exists to some extent but the over-reliance on hyperbolic, hysterical language has fostered laziness and stultification. A useful exercise is to try to describe phenomena you regard as potentially "fascist" without using the term; it obscures more than it reveals

Vocabulary is an arms race. But I would be careful not to overstate the implications of the fact. Some people could infer from that that there is no such thing as a genuine fasicst, which of course there is.

They were all right, though, since degraded political parties trend toward fascism/corporatism, since corporations pull more intently than the electorate does, in uneducated(government-educated) societies. That describes the USA now, and England in 1944.

I just wrote a comment to that same effect. But I think there are 2 important, contrasting sides to this issue. One we just covered. The other, is that people are overusing hyperbolic language and a clear post-war sense of moral hierarchy for cynical advantage.

I mean it does have a true meaning, just ask someone who self identifies as a Fascist. Check out this guy's channel, lots of well researched informational style videos on it. He identifies as a real Fascist, rather than the word being used as a slander. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9F9rnRF8Zc …
