Impeachment may not result in Trump's removal from office, but it would still be hugely significant. Would convert the House into an outright adversarial body. Consume media attention. And Trump would be only the third president ever impeached. A. Johnson, Clinton, Trump

I don't buy the argument that Trump would somehow automatically benefit from impeachment. The precedent people cite for that is Clinton. Well, that's only one prior example. Pretty small sample size. We have no idea how precisely this would play out. Unique set of circumstances

Impeachment would obviously inflame and energize Trump's "base" but guess what, Trump needs more than his "base" to win re-election. He won because of Obama-Trump voters in rural areas who aren't Hannity-watching partisans. And Clinton was impeached after he'd been re-elected

People like me are the wild card, methinks: I did not vote for Trump in ‘16, because I thought he was a D in R clothing. But I will enthusiastically support him in ‘20. My guess is that I am not alone.

I think the theory is that if you impeach trump, the election will be about that single issue. No other message will matter. And since trump didn’t conspire with Russia the election will essentially be his acquittal. Dems are literally running on a debunked conspiracy theory...

This is the first I've heard of a category of people called "Obama-Trump" voters. I have no evidence that they don't exist, but I don't know any people that would fit that description. My limited knowledge is that the political polarization of America is several years old.

Trump won because Reps, unlike Dems, know how a Pres. is elected--through the EC. They were planning for a Rep pres. since 2010, with the rise of the Tea Party. They had all their chess pieces in place. Very few Tea Partiers voted for Obama.

At this point, if there is a "middle" or "undecided voters", they are looking for the least crazy alternative. The Dems keep proving to the world that they have no policy ideas. The only thing they are trying to deliver to their base is his head on a platter. That seems unhinged.

Depends on which dems you mean. Biden has no ideas and is the clear front-runner, Warren has policy coming out of her ears and nobody seems to be paying attention. That being said it's still early in the game.

Energizing a base means a higher turn-out. It's not a reference to people who were going to vote anyhow, but more enthusiastically now.

I think a President Pence would be orders of magnitude worse. While that may not be a very principled reason to oppose impeaching Trump, it's still one I'm more than willing to stand by.

Ds dont want this power used against them. Its as simple as that. They don't want to be held accountable for the standard this impeachment would set. Also they are gorssly misreading polls/news that have been wrong since 2016

I think a key fact most people don’t understand is that even if he is impeached, he can still run again. It isn’t as though it stops the train. The Senate can impose a penalty of not being able to run again. That is extremely doubtful. Many think impeachment=game over

It just seems like Dems are trying to overturn the 2016 election. Again. And again. And again. I think a clumsy old lamewad like Biden being the front runner can be easily explained by Dem’s desire to get in a time machine and go back to the before time like 2016 didn’t happen.

If American voters do not punish Democrats for their despicable behavior the US is no longer capable of self governance. It will be an olygarchy, which it basically has become by now. Last call.

Speaking as an unaffiliated rural swing state voter... Impeaching Trump will only galvanize his bipartisan support in my area. Part of his major appeal to begin with, was his willingness to call out Establishment globalist lies... small town rural America will stand w Trump.

Totally agree! I think impeachment will not only galvanize his base, but swing independents to Trump’s camp. Middle America is not caught up in the hysteria of the coasts and won’t go for impeachment at all!
