Impeachment may not result in Trump's removal from office, but it would still be hugely significant. Would convert the House into an outright adversarial body. Consume media attention. And Trump would be only the third president ever impeached. A. Johnson, Clinton, Trump

I don't buy the argument that Trump would somehow automatically benefit from impeachment. The precedent people cite for that is Clinton. Well, that's only one prior example. Pretty small sample size. We have no idea how precisely this would play out. Unique set of circumstances

Impeachment would obviously inflame and energize Trump's "base" but guess what, Trump needs more than his "base" to win re-election. He won because of Obama-Trump voters in rural areas who aren't Hannity-watching partisans. And Clinton was impeached after he'd been re-elected

Every one know that Trump’s ‘high crime’ was winning the Nov 2016 election.

I can tell you that I’m extremely disappointed Trump has betrayed us on immigration. I was thinking of staying home in Nov 2020. But if the Dems initiate impeachment, I will be out voting for Trump.

Small sample, yes, but close: charge is obstruction re stuff people don't care about (fellatio) or don't believe (collusion); fevered opposition; Senate unlikely to convict. Big diff is WJC more popular to start. I think it hurts house Ds: nation will think it's a waste of time.

Huge difference b/t Trump and Clinton impeachment: MSM entirely on Bill’s side whereas re Trump it’s complete vindication of their entire narrative.

Remember how the medias hatred of Trump only helped him in 2016. Then he was a reality show real estate mogul and the press had more credible cases than this one. Now he is a relatively popular president, charged with attempted obstruction of a case that amounted to nothing much.

Johnson was too unpopular to have any chance at being elected president (he was never elected but ascended from veep when Lincoln was assassinated).

Given that impeachment is a political process, it will come down to political power. Dems don’t have the votes to oust the POTUS. But, it will be interesting to see what “high crimes and misdemeanors” they charge him with. Should be entertaining.

I completely agree with you. I might be on the other side of the isle, but the people who pretend to know are full of shit. Obviously if impeached, WHY would be a great factor...At least I think so.

Trump may not guarantee his re-election by being impeached for partisan motives, but the House Dems will almost surely lose their majority in 2020 if they decide to do it. And that's why Pelosi won't allow it.

Dems from very Blue districts demand impeachment and say Trump is a crook and demand Pelosi hold a vote. But remember it's all a show. Privately they're thanking her. They love her for never holding a vote because they can rile up the base without consequences.

It makes him look persecuted and keeps the mirage that he is an independent outsider. It will continue to take focus off the issues and the bad things he is doing. Trump will be successfully indignant. People don't trust the media the way they did in 98.

Basically it would be a distraction from other issues and policies and would increase the partisan divide. It will bolster the nevertrump narrative. Therefore it will help establishment dems in the primary. Tulsi may receive some benefit from the blowback.
