"How can anyone have living preferences that differ from mine." This guy is a parody of an oblivious, myopic conservative pundithttps://twitter.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1130141006215745537 …

My response to these kinds of people is to ask if they have a car. The answer is usually a yes, so I ask a follow up question. "What if you lived in the countryside but have no personal transport?" That was my life growing up.

That'll be me soon. Bus used to go 3 times a week, now only once. 2 hours each way to the shops. 3.5 hours to shop before the bus leaves. Tricky. Oh, & $40 return on concession fare.

Suburbia is the worst of both worlds, IMO. Not rural enough to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of rural life, not urban enough to enjoy the conveniences and cultural amenities of cities.

Urban used to have distinct advantages, but in a connected world, not as much now. Also, many restaurants are trending to oversalt their food much more. Cook at home.

Mostly these cultural shibboleths are a way to sidestep substantive issues. It's the most important way to undermine the efficacy of the political process.

Perfect explanation of why the majority of the media do not understand or relate to anything but the east and west coast population centers.

A large % of that is lifestyle posturing for an audience. Fashion is self reinforcing, even if your fashion is actually also your preference.

My political sensibilities are in tune with rural areas, but I'd go crazy if I didn't live in a big hip city

We all have our preferences. What happened to freedom of choice and the liberty these cons are always pissing and moaning about? They whine the most when we stop them from committing horrible crimes.

It is a difficult trade-off for those of us urbanists who have gone rural. What I miss most is my major university library. But I love the tranquility, closeness to the land and seasons, and distance from the crazed leftists of the city.

You understand thats a reaction to a city dweller commenting on Iowa right? And the intended result was to sound ridiculous.

Personally, I don’t like cities. Why? Because- I love sitting outside with coffee and not being blasted by sound pollution, I love hearing animals in the morning, and the people are less prickish.
