My working theory for why people across the political spectrum invariably react to this argument with blithering, sputtering rage is because on some level they know it's true and won't admit it to themselveshttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1130096582257512448 …

A lot of this derives from the inability of people to accept that sporadic acts of violence are commonplace throughout US history, and they'll inevitably continue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_New_York_and_New_Jersey_bombings … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Ohio_State_University_attack … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Chattanooga_shootings … Threat inflation is just as commonplace

I'm more from the Sam Harris view of it, than left/right politics. In the same way I'm skeptical of a Christian lady refusing to do her government job over religion, I'm skeptical of some things in Islam. I won't getting frothing at the mouth argumentative over it tho

In order for something to be criticized in America a thing must first be compared to Nazism. Even when a conservative criticizes socialism, he usually attempts to establish a connection to national socialism first. Hitler is the devil of America's postwar political religion.
