Yeah, the killing in Charlottesville was a "one-off event." And the beatings. And the Tree of Life synagogue massacre. Another one-off. And the Christchurch mosque massacre. Another one-off. And the San Diego synagogue shooting. Man, the bodies are piling up from these one-offshttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1129601398432309248 …

So, good job everyone who radically inflated the significance of that one-off event in August 2017, because it's influencing the conditions by which Biden can feasibly present himself as a desirable alternative, and cast internal Democratic Party debates as counter-productive

2016 Orlando shooting (worst mass shooting in US history at the time) was also a "one-off event" despite vague ideological similarities that you can infer between it and other events. My position is that the Orlando shooting didn't justify threat inflation; you clearly disagree

As with Nazis the number of ISIS sympathizers is small. What is worrying is the infrastructure (in ISIS' case mainly online propaganda) that allows for the radicalization of lone wolves. Stochastic terrorism. And very worrisome if done by powerful people.

Right, so the actual violent, terroristic threat posed by both groups (Nazis and ISIS) in the United States is extremely small. Always happy to find common ground.

The impact of political violence extends beyond body count. One could argue (as I've heard racists do) that the KKK didn't lynch that many people. Yet KKK violence pervasively shaped race relations from Reconstruction until (at the least) 1960s.

The actual violent terroristic threat, which is what I was referring to from the outset, is based on body count. It would be nice if the extremely low body count produced by both these groups was emphasized more in wider media and Twitter discourse.

It's a profound mistake to measure the impact of political violence just on "body count" alone. "Hey, the body count of Malcolm X's assassination was really low. Just one guy! Big fucking deal!"

It's not the only measure, but it's an important one that tends to get obscured by the inflammatory media coverage of both groups.

Man, you’re literally getting used and abused. At times, you make good arguments. But often you blurt out some emotionally driven statements after which you struggle to justify and/or defend. Just think twice before tweeting your emotional reactions.
