    Michael Tracey Retweeted Dan Lavoie

Columnists have gotten so lazy. Bret Stephens of the NYT formulated an entire column based on a Twitter reply he received from an account in Northern Ireland with less than 100 followers. These people literally just sit on Twitter and react to mentionshttps://twitter.com/djlavoie/status/1129723374408818691 …

    Michael Tracey added,

    Dan Lavoie @djlavoie
Bret Stephens begins a whole trite, mean-spirited column about how awful Millennials are by..... ....wait for it.... ....calling out by name a Twitter user with 68 followers from Northern Ireland as somehow representative of a whole generation. Also, @anarchopruapism is right! pic.twitter.com/1eDhb2yhbT

The reactionaries are the ultimate victims. The whole world is out to get them, and they are offended by the offended.

I'm usually with you, but the tweet was clearly just used as an example. I wouldn't say the column was "based on" the tweet. Anyone who actually clicks through and reads will see that his point doesn't hinge on that tweet *at all*.

I can't believe the amount of coverage twitter takes are getting lately. Let's face it, twitter musings are usually very superficial and throw-away. You won't find much profound wisdom on twitter, just silly snark and nasty offensive takes most of the time.

Anyway, just read the article. It's actually not bad. Hell, I agree with the main thrust of it in that this SJW part of the younger generations really needs to get their act together and get some common sense. (notice I said it is "part" of this group, not all!)

Seems like a reasonable position that we should all do better at avoiding ALL generalizations. Not interested in poking millennials more but it does seem fair to criticize certain aspects but that’s true of all generations. Time for U.S. renewal to rejection of generalizations.

I do that. For fun. But I didn't know you can get paid for it. Ask his publisher if he'll take me on if I promise to at least be right when I do it. 😆

Omg I’m going to become a reply girl to him. Hope I’m in the NYT too. J/k ;) He chose an account less politically involved than any number of people I know who might say the same & totally in the right!

Sort of forms a perfect counterpart to Donald Trump reportedly spending half his time sitting in a room watching Fox News.

The weird thing I find from journalists & publications across all perspectives & categories is the numerous articles that purport to represent the social media zeitgeist while the majority of tweets & posts they reference barely have single digit likes, retweets, responses.
