In some ways "the opposition" is more influential than the party in power in dictating the nature of US political circumstances. Post 2010 especially, GOP set the terms of debate under Obama. Since 2016 left/liberals have done same. That's why their paranoia is worth scrutinizing

The very fact the “two parties” openly cooperate on foreign militarism and domestic corporatism with overlap as the future MIGHT be an indication the “opposition” is owned. Party lines notwithstanding.

Medicaid for all, Paris climate accord, and fear mongering over Russia. But if you want to actually discuss any of it, instead of just swallowing an appeal to authority, then you are a Nazi. Yes, they dictated this

There’s no power there. When our elites don’t get their way legislatively, they just overturn the result via the courts.

It's hard to blame them for using the same strategies Republicans found so success with after 9/11 and during the Obama admin, but at the same time it's a huge turnoff to anyone who fell on the left in opposition to those strategies. If Dems are just yesterday's Reps, why bother?

The US system of governance is different from the westminster (UK) system of governance. The "opposition" might still have a majority in the house or Senate. Even with a minority seats a rep might still pass bills if s/he gets bipartisan support. Not so with westminster...

A lot of countries use the westminster model. But you can't accurately compare the US model with it in regards to "opposition" because the US doesn't have true oppositions...

Again, Russiagaters have no moral commitments to anything. Hence their maddening indifference to facts. It is literally inaccurate to call them the "left".

it's always easier to be the "opposition". You don't have to come up with any ideas. Just say you are against whatever the folks in power want....this likely wins you the next election and everyone just switches roles and ultimately nothing gets done.
