Number of Dems currently running smashes all historical records. Reasons: insane protractedness of the campaign cycle means "non-viability" won't matter for many months, proliferation of venues for media exposure, general intense politicization under Trump, genuine crazed egotism

And of course, it's all a lucrative business opportunity. Having "former presidential candidate" in your title instantly boosts your speaking fee, virtually assures a generous book deal, and means the consultancy offers will be flowing in

To all those asking, I am flattered but I will NOT be running. If nominated I will not accept, if elected I will not serve. Please don't over-interpret my trips to Iowa and New Hampshire. Plus I am NOT Constitutionally eligible and don't want to burden the Courts at this time

Weren’t Dems saying in 2015 that basically having a large field of candidates was the death of the party. Personally, I think they were correct. I voted Trump and have never voted Repub (3rd election). It’s fair to say Repub party was killed and revived by Trump.

Probably the donor class have figured out that if they get enough neo-libs&semi-progressives running they'll divide&conquer any populist wave to the point that a neo-lib wins on plurality w/help of establishmentarian delegates. It will be 2016 again but ostensibly no one's fault.

You are being naive here. 1) This is about insuring a second ballot for the superdelegate because the popular vote is so diluted. 2) It waters down polling and political messaging of progressives to make them seem marginal, e.g. Sanders, Gabbard...3) means fewer n Congress 2 supp

Is there any credence to the theory the DNC is promoting a large field to minimize the impact of Super Delegate reforms. IE - Lessens chances of first vote candidate at convention.

I also don't think you should underestimate the fact that for the vast majority of elected officials running is about 10x more fun than actually doing their day job, and they know they won't get punished for it
