James Baker, the former FBI official currently on a media tour, gets very offended when anyone suggests that he was part of an attempted "coup." Of course that's not how these people would characterize their actions. But in totality, what they did 100% amounted to a "soft coup"

If the most powerful law enforcement and intelligence officials in the country get together to surveil and entrap members of a campaign because they believe the candidate poses a National Security Threat, that can be reasonably described as a "soft coup"

Later, of course, the top person in the Justice Department and the top person in the FBI got together to plot extra-legal presidential removal schemes, such as "wearing a wire" and recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment on spurious grounds

That's why I use the phrase "soft coup," because it doesn't require conscious intentionality at any given moment: it just reflects a widespread desire to use extraordinary tactics to impede the candidate, and then even remove him once he assumed office

"Coup" gives the impression of a military brigade invading the White House and arresting the president. Obviously that didn't happen, and almost certainly couldn't happen. "Soft coup" better captures the broad scope of these unprecedented security state actions

Exactly why this cannot go unpunished. It is better for the country to cauterize the wound now than to have it opened up again in the future.

A prime example of the effectiveness of the mass brainwashing by MSM. Staggering. If there's a positive side, it's that I have a much better understanding of how cult leaders operate and how vulnerable anyone can be.

History offers examples: the removal of JFK in Dallas in 1963 was indeed a hard coup. The removal of Nixon in 1974 via "Watergate" was a soft coup. CIA perpetrated both of those coups. So who do you think is (quite evidently) behind the current coup? It's in front of our noses.

Agree 100% it was a none organized concerted effort taken on by many different actors at different levels that each played an important role in the act. But all to a point where they could claim ambiguity.

I'd go with at least a medium coup when it actually extends into the term of the president they work for.

Disagree. It does inherently require intentionality. FBI was using the powers of the security state to investigate Russian actions in 2016 as part of broad CI mission. Now one could argue Dems and some media used that investigation to stage a soft coup.

Similarly, the Conservative Movement perpetrated, beginning with Reagan, a "Slow Motion Coup", and allowed a slimy takeover of American Government by corporations and the completion of the Oligarchy under not Bush, but Obama. I'm not alone in this theory.

You may be right on technical merits between "coup" and "soft coup", however, "coup" is more effective persuasion because of the imagery you mentioned. DJT, the brander-in-chief, will use that cudgel over and over. Sit back and enjoy the show.😎

Like I said a long time ago, if this is all proven, this was attempt to remove a President by cop and lawyer that failed. Shouldn’t have happened here. And should never happen regardless of party. This is the US, not Myanmar, or some banana republic in South America or Africa.

You should also mention that foreign-policy-wise the coup was 100% successful. It ousted Russia detente advocates and installed a neocon, aggresively anti-Russia foreign policy.

I think assassination plans are going to be brought to light. First people get accustomed to the coup idea and then the details will impress the courts.
