Screwed up my math royally on the number of residents in NYC vs. South Bend, IN. Should not attempt math before drinking coffee. NYC has 83x as many residents. De Blasio's run may be comical, but what's the justification for treating him as unSerious relative to Mayor Pete?

The justification... Is that Mayor Dee-B is crazy as a New York sewer rat. While Mayor Pete strikes most people as quite rational.

Blasio could run for something else, Governor, congress, etc. Mayor Pete has 0 chance of moving up in my awesome state of Indiana.

I think it’s more that people dislike DeBlasio already. Pete was a blank slate and proved relatively likable.

They are both terrible. He was probably pressured by the DNC to run. If the vote is splintered enough in the primary it will allow the superdelegates to choose the nominee. That is probably their endgame.

Buttigieg went to Harvard w Zuck and has the godlike Silicon Valley donor Rolodex. He is a Clintonian center-right incrementalist (hence adored by the DNC establishment), and can balance his lack of progressive platform with demographic optics (see Obama). De Blasio’s got blanks.pic.twitter.com/HQArpg9NvU

Mayor Pete of South Bend has to deal with things like his city being one of the world's major financial centers, 3 major airports, a massive public transit system, & 65 million tourists from around the world every year. Wait.

They both got only ~8% of the overall population to become mayor.

De Blasio is exactly where he should be regarding his competency… Pete's seriousness index is egregiously inflated and a bubble which will burst early in the debates

Agree, it’s a lot like putting a senator from Wyoming on par with a senator from California.

Mayor Pete is seen as the ultimate underdog, a small town mayor in a contest of former Vice Presidents, Senators and well-known congressmen/women. I think that's what gives his narrative an appeal that De Blasio's doesn't.

DeBlasio’s stage is bigger and therefore his incompetence is magnified. It’s simple.
