Increasingly clear to me that the criticisms of Tulsi Gabbard's religious background are laced with innuendos and insinuations that would not be tolerated with respect to other groups. Americans' ignorance of Hinduism is being leveraged as a political attack against her.

She's not getting attacked, she's getting ignored, because there's no reason for her to be running while Bernie Sanders is campaigning. Hindus aren't an oppressed group in the United States, and Kamala Harris probably spent more time in Hindu temples than Gabbard.

      1) Kamala is not a practicing Hindu, whereas Tulsi was the first Hindu ever elected to Congress 2) There's every reason for her to be running, as she and Bernie have different issue emphases 3) Did you miss this?https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1089526718199668736 …

The Intercept has rescinded and apologized for a clause in its recent article on Tulsi Gabbard which cast as nefarious the fact that many of her donors had "names that are of Hindu origin" (see: https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1088640579863543809 …). Still a huge, troubling blunder. https://theintercept.com/2019/01/05/tulsi-gabbard-2020-hindu-nationalist-modi/ … pic.twitter.com/5rk5YsA6vu

Based on the correction alone, I don't find this to be that troubling or a blunder. Stop being so sensitive.

I think it's extremely troubling that a top "progressive" media outlet would scour through the individual donors of a candidate to make sinister, groundless inferences based on nothing but those donors' names. Hence why they retracted and apologized after I complained

Get back to me when Bernie starts speaking sensibly about Russia, Syria, Venezuela, and the massive encroachment of the FBI/CIA into domestic US politics.

Okay so Tulsi is running a foreign policy focused campaign and has every right to run, I'll concede that. And perhaps she's drawing hostility on that basis. But I just see no particular animus towards her on the basis of her background.

I just cited to you one major, egregious example. Additionally, The New Yorker accused her of belonging to a cult. She's been repeatedly accused of espousing "Hindu Nationalism" even though she expressly renounces it. So yes, there's a particular animus toward her on that basis.

When has she expressly renounced Hindu nationalism? Have we missed this @shankarmya @FriedrichPieter?

They will use whatever they can against Tulsi Gabbard, and if there is nothing, never mind, they will make something up. The key point is that she is running a US foreign policy oriented campaign. That's taboo territory.

Totally normal religious group. And her support for Modi is a matter of public record. Some attacks on her are hypocritical but that's just the nature of politics.pic.twitter.com/f0EYUH80TX

Yeah this is a good point. But speaking at RSS fundraisers is of more concern to me than her Modi praise. Not to mention I don’t think she’s as good on foreign policy as Tracey makes her out to be, despite many admirable stances.
