I'm familiar with his work. Part of that work included consuming the mushrooms. He wrote a column expressing disapproval of the Denver decriminalization measure and I find that wholly obnoxious.

weed, shrooms, peyote, opium poppies etc. should be legal if there’s no chemical processing. All plants should be legal.
-
There's absolutely nothing inherently wrong with "chemical processing" either.

Isn't it weird that we don't make poison ivy illegal.

It’s absurd that it’s illegal to possess something you can easily pick up off the ground.

He gets to decide who goes to jail for something that he more than likely participated in illegally.

Idk reading his post again, I don't know that he's being disingenuous here. He's basically saying he's glad people won't go to jail for it but that it's still a substance that should be treated with a ton of respect. You don't feel he's being fair in that point?
-
The whole point of his column was to express disapproval of the Denver decriminalization ballot initiative.

Meh, it’s more a warning that shrooms may not be for everyone and the ballot box can be pretty ignorant, democratic or not. The exhalation of psychedelics in the 60’s led to a lot of irresponsible use and many casualties. Not everyone is going to use them wisely...

What's important is that it's their choice.

What? This is a perfectly measured and cautious piece. We should go about this process with care, as we still largely don’t have adequate research or guidelines in regards to the potential adverse effects and uses of psychedelics.
-
There is a huge body if research in the area. Not just from the recent resurgence but also from the era prior to its outlawing.

Why is Micheal Pollen such a tool thinking our personal liberty should be at the governing rule of politicians. As Graham Hancock puts it we are not truly free if we are not free to explore our consciousness on our own terms.
