And another advantage I forgot to mention in the piece: Biden recently shut down his personal "foundation," which was nowhere near the scope of the Clinton Foundation -- which the Clintons refused to shut down in 2016, leading to (accurate) accusations of nepotism and corruption

It’s amazing to me how quick people are to scream that I’m somehow “shilling” for Biden, as if I suddenly decided that I love him and want him to be president. No, I’m just trying to describe the dynamics operative in a Democratic primary. Descriptive vs normative: look it up

Hillary didn't benefit from her association with Obama nearly as much as Biden because 1) she ran against Obama in 2008 and attacked him viciously 2) She wasn't elected twice on the same ticket as Obama, unlike Biden 3) Biden's personal relationship with Obama is much closer

According to a study of Facebook sentiment data in 2014, Biden was the most popular Democrat in the country. The study showed that 67% of the conversation on Facebook about him was positive, far outscoring Hillary on that metrichttps://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/bensmith/the-facebook-election …

That will probably drop somewhat as he participates in a contentious primary race. But it indicates that the baseline of "positivity" Democrats feel toward him is much higher than Hillary's ever was, which is yet another major strength he possesses relative to Hillary

To what would you attribute Biden's greater popularity over Hillary Clinton?

Closer association with Obama, a highly popular former president whom Hillary ran against and sharply attacked. Conversely, Biden was elected on the same ticket as Obama twice. Projects less of an appearance of corruption and mendacity. Also vague sense of greater "authenticity"

Hillary was Obama's Secretary of State! That's a top cabinet position. And his ties to credit card companies surely as bad as anything Clinton did. Also the plagiarist of Neil Kinnock hardly seems non-mendacious & authentic.

Most Democratic voters are not aware of what transpired in Biden's 1988 campaign. Secretary of State is a top position, but VP lent itself to greater association with Obama, if only for the simple fact that it entailed Biden getting elected twice on the same ticket as Obama.

Most voters have only a vague sense of any candidates back story but some of it comes out in elections. Biden has baggage. Do you think other Dems & GOP won't bring it up?

In the minds of most Democratic primary voters, I think whatever "baggage" Biden possessed in the 1980s and 1990s will be overridden by a fondness for his eight years spent working side by side as the most trusted confidant of the first black president.

This is nonsense. Popularity doesn't transfer (endorsements persuade no one) and elections are always about the future.
