Joe Biden is a stronger candidate than many in the media initially wanted to acknowledge. The association with Obama is probably the single most valuable asset any candidate can have in a presidential primary race. He's not "Hillary 2.0" either. I should say, this isn't really an "item." It's a pretty long essay. I also think it's notable that whenever you say something "positive" about Biden on Twitter, even if you're just trying to be descriptive rather than normative, tweet-engagement goes way down. Telling!

As I discuss in the essay, one key early Biden endorser who hasn't gotten much attention is Rep. Don McEachin (D-VA). McEachin is heading House candidate recruitment for Dems in 2020. So there will be subtle (or not so subtle) pressures for these candidates to endorse Biden

Example of the impotence of Biden's opposition: today people on Twitter are raging about some policy he put forward. Maybe it's good, maybe it's bad. It doesn't matter. The policies voters associate with him are those enacted under the 8-year Obama presidency. Accept that or lose

Another key advantage Biden has that Hillary lacked:https://twitter.com/ThePlumLineGS/status/1126940488756494337 …

Biden as veep four years ago (as opposed to running for a third straight term of his party) gives him the added advantage of conveying "restoration" for these types of voters. Dose of nostalgia thrown in.

And another advantage I forgot to mention in the piece: Biden recently shut down his personal "foundation," which was nowhere near the scope of the Clinton Foundation -- which the Clintons refused to shut down in 2016, leading to (accurate) accusations of nepotism and corruption

It’s amazing to me how quick people are to scream that I’m somehow “shilling” for Biden, as if I suddenly decided that I love him and want him to be president. No, I’m just trying to describe the dynamics operative in a Democratic primary. Descriptive vs normative: look it up

Which was rejected soundly in 2016. If Biden is going to run as a white Obama 2.0 he will be blown out even more than Hillary's version of Obama 2.0 was. Obama's policies destroyed our economy & ripped our nation apart. There's no way we're going backwards. Accept that.

Just an anecdote channeling the self-esteemed, Thomas Friedman, my Uber driver today (Hispanic/black/female) became animated when I mentioned Sanders’ support for Uber drivers, like I had just whispered a shared secret. She asked me to read his statement. Also Said Biden=Trump

I realize that the plural of anecdote is still anecdote, but her passion “I love Bernie” was so unexpected and genuine that I wanted to share it somewhere. Also her antipathy for Biden as another Trump, “he’s not Obama” was also unambiguous.

Historically, Biden's policies, and donors, have been harmful. Plus, this is not the time to go with "Status Quo Joe". We need big, bold change, and pols like Pelosi and Biden are always putting their hands up in my face. That's not progress.

we now know that most of those policies were bad, including separating families at the border, "disincentivizing" people at the border, guns in natl parks, the sequester, on and on. Then there were those speeches to bankers we're gonna glom onto like BULLDOGS! #Bernie2020

Considering Obama's policies are wildly unpopular outside of California, I think we can just consider Trump's second term locked down.

Except from what I can glean from polls Biden's main appeal is his 'electability' - which is not really a thing. And when people hear about his past - particularly Black women - who are a key constituency for him - they look elsewhere. He could very well have a glass jaw

Why do you think people care about policies? Obama was a young, charismatic black man who won largely on identity-politics issues. "Hope and Change". Biden is an old white guy completely devoid of identity-politics bonus points and exudes neither hope, change or charisma.
