The drivers can do as they wish, but they aren’t entitled to anything as contractors. Neither company can actually turn a profit. The more revenue they generate, the greater the losses. They are “valuable” only because a group of investors want to invest in “disruption” companies

They’re not really contractors according to labor law. These companies abuse the contractor distinction and should be held to account.

How did a ridesharing app devolve into drivers as employees? Everyone's a victim.

I used to drive for them on the side. They definitely do not care about their drivers. They have a neverending supply of applicants and they often oversaturate an area with drivers. No compensation for cancels I already drove to. Some days I lost money on gas.

Yep. Also, the idea you can actually choose your customers is a joke. “You get five seconds to reject this rider and if you do we’ll put you in time out”

And the teachers walkout & other anti-austerity proposals?!? From the onset the companies have entered without permits, used deceitful software to get past regs, have undercut union cabs, & lobbied their way in. They are even worse to workers, create congestion, & C emissions.

Please ask me about Uber. They shouldn’t even exist. They are up there with Nike in my contempt for their reactionary reshaping of the economy & undermining labor/safety regs and attempts to steer local officials and overrule local regs at the state level.

Are those two job opportunities still voluntary?
-
If voluntary (thank you zip) then what’s the issue? No one is being exploited if the exchange is voluntary and not forced

For people living in third world "shit holes" with nothing to lose, ride sharing is a rung up the social ladder, but in the US, it's a demotion. People in the US like to be in control for the most part. I don't see them doing that well in the US.

If they can negotiate more benefits and job security - great. Hard to say what the preferences are for thousands of people.
