Notable that Democrats have fielded presidential candidates from pretty much every region in the country, except for the South (defined roughly as AL, MS, GA, SC, TN, KY, AR, MO, northern FL)

And yes people I’m aware that “the South” is not strictly defined. You could also include southern VA, NC, LA, etc. and the point would still hold

I don't consider Beto as from the South. El Paso is regionally in the Southwest. It's right across the border from New Mexico. Has more in common with AZ/NM than most of Texas. (And whether you can even describe Texas as part of "The South" is debatable)

Texas is kind of a region unto itself, which is why I wouldn't describe Julian Castro as from "The South" either. (And yes, once again, I know these regional descriptions are amorphous). At the very least you can say there are no Dem candidates from the Deep South

Correct: Texas is a mix of the west and the south and is thus “Texas”. The south includes southern Virginia and NC and LA but would not include MO (Midwest). Arkansas is debatable as well as Kentucky.

My dude, I’m from Arkansas. It’s the south. So is MO. Both are below the Mason Dixon.

This is correct. Texas has at least 3 distinct regional characteristics. As a whole, it does not fit the traditional idea of the south. We claim the south here, because we are more southern than western, but western as a descriptor for many things texas is very common in use.

I thought the major news story of 4 years ago was how the Dems were officially shut out of every important office in the south. So, confirmation, but no surprise.

East of Houston, Texas is Deep South. Houston on West is just Texas, its own unique place. West Texas where Bush came from is its own special Hell. Dallas is another. El Paso belongs in New Mexico. There’s at least five different states in Texas.
