Notable that Democrats have fielded presidential candidates from pretty much every region in the country, except for the South (defined roughly as AL, MS, GA, SC, TN, KY, AR, MO, northern FL)

Obviously if Stacey Abrams runs (GA) this point will be negated

And yes people I’m aware that “the South” is not strictly defined. You could also include southern VA, NC, LA, etc. and the point would still hold

I don't consider Beto as from the South. El Paso is regionally in the Southwest. It's right across the border from New Mexico. Has more in common with AZ/NM than most of Texas. (And whether you can even describe Texas as part of "The South" is debatable)

Texas is kind of a region unto itself, which is why I wouldn't describe Julian Castro as from "The South" either. (And yes, once again, I know these regional descriptions are amorphous). At the very least you can say there are no Dem candidates from the Deep South

Texas is not the south, even if some Texans make believe they are.

True. Growing up in Texas in the ‘50’s, the “Deep South” was considered as separate from us as New England or California. We made fun of their “southern accents”. Texas, formerly an independent republic called “Texas”, is just Texas.

El Paso is a wonderful place that is completely unlike Dallas, Houston, San Antonio or Albuqueque. It seems unlikely, but more people should visit. Great food and great people, too.

Of course Texas is part of the south, they literally started a war over slavery before the civil war was even a thing
