So editors are now proclaiming that they will conceal true and newsworthy information from their readers just because it happens to allegedly originate from some scary foreign country. Very sensible and productive journalistic philosophy https://twitter.com/dabeard/status/1122609837307772928 …

They're clearly referring to all the leaks they published that had to be retracted or edited after publishing and not Wikileaks. Duh. Jk

no, because it's trump. all of this "we won't be used" nonsense is just their excuse for selectively reporting what they want to report.

They are not saying they won't publish hacked material like said tax documents. They are saying they need to verify a source and authenticity of material--which despite how the tax records came, they are in fact Trumps. This is very different that publishing *alleged* ones, no?

"Motivations" does not affect authenticity.

If I am following this correctly, it is being suggested that the msm should return to these journalistic values. the question then is why did they move away from them.

News orgs can never discriminate based on alleged intent of leaker. Iceland's PM had to step down bc of Panama Papers leak revealed hidden money in Virgin Islands. Should news orgs have refrained from publishing bc they didn't know if leaker was friendly towards Iceland or not?

Still curious why you think a tax return is such a big deal? It isn’t. He’s rich. So what? Mitt paid only 14% SO WHAT? You only want it to play class warfare politics in an attempt to piss people off and influence their votes. That isn’t journalism either...

We all know the answer is no. In fact I will not be surprised if some Trumpeters decide to hoax them just to test this very proclamation.

Not sure what happened to your reading comprehension skills, but they need a lot of work, because that’s not what that column says.
