Mueller cites two media reports, by strident Russiagaters Julia Ioffe and Ken Dilanian, related to a "meeting" Sessions supposedly had with Kislyak on April 27, 2016. Ioffe and Dilanian use innuendo to cast the meeting as highly suspicious. Muller concludes it was inconsequentialpic.twitter.com/shelqyuCH6

This "undisclosed meeting" caused one of thousands of media meltdowns in 2017, and led to Sessions' recusal. Mueller says it was essentially a brief exchange of pleasantries at a public event. Just as "skeptics" had said all along was the most plausible explanation.

          Michael Tracey Retweeted Julia Ioffe

Note that Ioffe rattled off a self-congratulatory tweet a few days ago about how wonderful the media's coverage was of Trump/Russia. The central insinuation which colored her June 2017 piece (Sessions covered up a suspicious meeting) was rebuked by Muellerhttps://twitter.com/juliaioffe/status/1118959577674997761 …

One of my main conclusions from them #MuellerReport so far is that the vast majority of *reporting* on Trump and Russia was extremely accurate.

Mueller makes another factual error here. (Second one I've identified: https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1118907755006517251 …) Dilanian's piece was published on June 1, 2017 not June 1, 2016. You could say it doesn't matter, but shouldn't this Report have been comprehensively fact-checked with fine-tooth comb?pic.twitter.com/dxAEO1QYQ9

Basically, by the mainstream’s logic, any meeting with a Russian person must have had a sinister anti-American purpose. Never mind, perhaps, that these meetings were benevolent attempts toward improving relations, and perhaps someday even fostering bilateral commerce?

Even if Sessions had recused himself I doubt he would have been effective in the whole Russian debacle.

One could argue his lying to Congress about his contacts, not the contacts themselves, caused his recusal.

This is the same Kislyak that we all watched attend a speech in Congress as an invited guest. Guess that counts as a “contact with Russians!”
