Challenge to anyone hanging onto the inane fallacy that Mueller didn't disprove Trump/Russia collusion, he merely asserted that there was no evidence to establish it: Please prove that you are not the Easter Bunny. Hint: you can't, because it's impossible to prove a negative

      1. I am human 2. All humans are not the Easter Bunny 3. Therefore, I am not the Easter Bunny

Yes. Thank you. Russell's thesis here is ridiculous.

Tracey’s point is right, though. The Easter bunny example is just a bad example. Proving a negative is not impossible as a principle, but proving that someone never did a specific thing that might be done at any point is not really doable

Exactly. I can easily prove that a square isn’t a triangle. His point still stands though.

You can't prove with 100% epistemological certainty that you're not being deceived by your subjective consciousness to believe that a square isn't a triangle. That's the point: this logical technicality they're clinging to is an inane deflection

Ok but that applies to any claim, not just negatives

It applies even more acutely to negatives

Tracey, I don't think those (like me) who think there's epistemic distance between "Mueller did not establish criminal conspiracy" and "Mueller established that no criminal conspiracy took place" are engaged in a Cartesian project of doubting the senses. You know better...

I don’t think he was saying that. I think he’s saying it’s not a substantial point, kinda like the “can we be sure we’re not being tricked by a demon?” point ultimately not being of any real substance.

Fair enough. But if it was given that this is a square you could then prove 100% that it wasn’t a triangle couldn’t you? Otherwise wouldn’t all mathematical proofs have to start out with something along the lines of “given we are not in the matrix”?
