The political calculation is obvious. He's trying to broaden his electoral coalition with appeals to Democratic "normies" and party insiders, among whom he knows any perceived "defense" of Assange would be toxic. So he just ignores the subjecthttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1117382186242576384 …

It's really hard to get over something like this when never losing your sense of outrage was the reason I left the Green Party to support him. I feel like I got duped not just one time, but two.https://youtu.be/BrBXcKcviuc

I really think it’s a miscalculation. His support is still there for now, but it has cooled down considerably. He’s losing that necessary enthusiasm he had behind him. My perception only. No proof.

A man with no backbone. We saw that when he capitulated to Clinton although knowing that she had used illegal and foul means to damage him. No backbone means no integrity.

I love how Bernie apologists come on here to assure us that standing silent in the face of the moral depravity of imprisoning and torturing truth-tellers who revealed war crimes committed in our name is too much to expect of a politician. Good lord, have you no shame.

Maybe Bernie is has more to lose than Tulsi, and is therefore deliberating his response. There is going to be a response for sure, and you know it. So why insist on turning into one of those crazed people demanding his tax returns yesterday?

Thus revealing how he will operate as president. Dissemble, avoid and omit. Cowardice. He is a calculator, not a leader. Which is precisely he was happy to take the payoff from HRC.

I'd rather him get elected so he can actually make a difference for press freedom and justice than jump on this hand grenade to make us happy.

Charters are an issue that Dem presidential candidates would just as soon avoid because Dems are just as complicit in their proliferation as Republicans. And there's the contribution potential of the billionaires who fund the movement. Booker has the inside line to that money

My "name" is Michael Tracey and I "love" putting words in "quotation marks"-- it's a neat rhetorical trick that lets me make "assertions" implicitly so that I won't have to "defend" them explicitly. It's also incredibly condescending to my interlocutors, whose views I "respect."
